Need some help in san diego for a crusader 350

Postby Greenhornchris » July 7th, 2024, 4:06 pm

Hey guys I've got a 89 carver 3207 and over the last few months I've put I don't know how many hours and how much money trying to restore the boat and really get the engines in order mechanically and I've done that for the most part , I've got just a few things left til she's really turn key. I posted a few days ago about the starter for the port side engine I replaced but when I start the boat there is a terrible noise that is the fly wheel hitting the tip of the ring on the end of the starter. The brand new starter I put in I matched at a boat parts store with the old one we matched them up side by side on the table and I can't for the life of me figure out how this is happening, I took it out and put it in there twice just to be sure. The new starter has been damaged after inspection. Does anyone have any ideas I'm lost on this one.

Perhaps there was a shim/washer in the original mounting to create the right depth for the gear. Maybe measure the difference when you compare the two. Sometimes these things need to be fitted.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.....
