New to this size boat
Ran out my chain and found it to only be 175 feet long. Last few owners didn't do much with the boat. Wanting to replace with 300'. The current chain appears to be 8mm 1.5" links stamped LH. Local shop wasn't sure of the origin suspects its a foreign make.
Any recommendations for replacement that will be compatible on my windlass?

It depends on the brand and model of your windlass. Check the rope and chain spec for that particular unit to ensure you're getting the correct chain size.

Before we purchased new chain recently, I took my gypsy off my windlass (Maxwell Freedom 800) and took it to West Marine to ensure the correct fit. Our chain was 5/16" and we went with the Grade 43 (G4) High Test chain.
Do you know the model of your windlass? There are several varieties of chain (e.g. some for mooring, some with longer links, some with shorter links, some designed for windlasses) so do your due diligence before purchasing.
Good luck!
Kyle

Which brand and model windlass do you have? The Maxwell Freedom 800 was used a lot back then. If that's what you have, it's 5/16" G4 chain.
