Shurflo waterpump
I have a Shurflo 2088-712-244 water pump with a Shurflo water strainer 252-3. When the pump, pumps water, the lid lifts and water spills out the top. I tightened it as much as the lid will go before the plastic piece stops it and still leaks?? The rubber gasket looks to be in good condition. I cannot seem to find a new replacement lid and was wondering if their is a newer model available or if I should just replace the pump with a simular model?

Re: Shurflo waterpump
I have the 366 version of your boat so I know that plumbing and even have a similar flo jet pump but not sure what the box is for. My forward sink/shower sump is seperate and down lower in the bilge. My fresh water pump is below the galley floor which maybe one of the differences in our layouts. Is that box a sump or part of the fresh water?

Re: Shurflo waterpump
Are you saying the lid on the strainer lifts ? Is this freshwater service ?
I have always had a strainer/screen filter on the suction side between the pump and the fresh water tank, that protects the pump from debris.

FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Ok, I see now. That white box IS your strainer! As you see in my pix, my strainer is much smaller and directly attached to the pump. Seems yours is maybe easily replaceable with something more compact and would solve your whole issue?

If you're talking about the strainer leaking, I'd replace it with the newer style. They're readily available at most marine supply retailers or on line.

Yes, that white box is the strainer. I am looking to replace it, just not sure what the correct replacement is?Carverlvr2 wrote:QR_BBPOST Ok, I see now. That white box IS your strainer! Yes it is for my fresh water system. One of the tabs are broken so the water pressure pushes the lid up.

Must say that is an odd installation for sure. It is very rare a filter of that type is installed on the pressure side so I am thinking this is not original. Just the size of the cover makes it unsuitable for pressure side installation being the surface area translates to a powerful piston like reaction forcing it apart. I would do as others have mentioned and shown, install one on the suction side.

Re: Shurflo waterpump
Agreed, the strainer must be on the suction side, in the line coming from the tank to the pump.

Re: Shurflo waterpump
It is on the suction side before the pump. A new replacement strainer should be ready to be picked up and installed tomorrow.
