Also, check the hose connections and the seals on the fuel filters. If there's any leak (even if it doesn't leak out gas) it will suck in air because the fuel pump has to develop enough vacuum to overcome the anti-siphon valve. If your fuel filter is empty, that's a clue you've been sucking air and it's been getting in somewhere.
