Transmission cooler

Postby Torsson » December 20th, 2019, 11:42 am

Hello. On my Carver 28 i have 2 different transmission cooler on is about 25cm long and the other 40cm long. Is there any reason or did someone just replace one with something that was easy to find?.

And where can i find the correct one with shipping world wide?.

Why i want to change is because the "End" on one of them popped off and seawater started flowing so i want to change both to have it done.

Are you sure they are both for the transmission ? Does the other engine have the same set up with two coolers ? Double check where the lines come from and go to.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.....

I have a 1977 Carver 28, single engine with V drive. The raw water enters the "Walter" drive first then continues on to an in-line cooler for the Velvet drive, then on to the engine.

This appears to be the factory configuration and works well. From memory, my transmission cooler is around 25cm long. Not sure why you have 2 coolers.... maybe there were cooling problems at some stage?

Typically if there's two coolers, one is for the transmission and the other is for engine oil. Engine oil cooler's are common on big block applications but can also be found on some small blocks as well. The U shaped dual cooler typically found on Crusaders is an example of two coolers in one (for trans and engine) but some applications have single coolers for each oil system.

Do a Google search for Crusader coolers. There are a lot of OEM and aftermarket suppliers, I'm sure a few of them would ship overseas. Failing that, a local hydraulics supplier might also have a cooler that will do the job.
