Crusader 8.2L 502XL oil recommendation

Postby Seanflanman » December 1st, 2021, 12:43 pm

Hi everyone, just bought this boat a few months ago. Can anyone give me advise on what oil and filters to use on my 1997 Carver 455 with Crusader 502XL series engines. They have approx 750 hours on them. Also, oil recommendations to use on the Koehler 10KW generator? Appreciate any help! Thanks.

15w 40 oil is the recommendation from Crusader. Brand is up to you as everyone has an opinion/preference on this. Oil Filter, lots of them out there by various manufacturers. https://marinepartssource.com/spin-on-f ... ader-22687

The 1997 502 is a big block GM Vortech roller cam engine. Crusader or Mercury will recommend 15/40 or 15/50. Gm will recommend synthetic oil.
Keep it changed and clean, stick with one brand and you will be good.
The genny will be happy with 10/30 or 10/40. My preference is synthetic, but that's not required.

I use 25-50 Quicksilver oil in my 5.7's. Like the extra lubrication of a 50 weight, will never start engines in 25 degree weather. I run my engines well below what they are capable of, usually 3400RPM or lower. I use Sierra oil filters. Easy to find, quality product. 8-) er
