Hurth 630 Transmission

So I have Crusader 5.7L engine, and a Hurth 630 transmission , but the engines are mounted "backwards" So the flywheel is towards the front-Bow of the boat. But when I look at pictures online of the transmission, I see the output shaft is on the opposite side of input shaft. My questions is, I have no idea what turns this back around to connect to the prop shaft since the engine and transmission output would face the bow of the boat? I assume there is another gear box of some type for the v-drive? I am not near the boat right now, but just trying to research all of this. Even when I have been at the boat I was not looking for this answer, but I have no idea where this extra gear box would be, as I don't think there is any room. I have never checked my prop shaft seals, as I can't even see them. I am trying to learn about all this so I can do maintenance and look into a clunking drive on my port side drive system. It works, but makes a steady clunking when in forward gear. It didn't do this when I test drove the boat, but the prior owner hit the that side prop on the trailer when it was putting it on the trailer before I bought it. I didn't notice it till I took the boat off the trailer and noticed the wood was cut into, and it was not like that before I bought it. Does anyone have any addition information on what I should have or what brand it might be. I even have the cut sheet from the manufacture, and it only lists the hurth 630 transmission.

If you have the remote v drive ( rv drive ,shaft goes from the trans to the gear case that reverses the power to the prop shaft ), then in the salon should be some floor plates, one on either side, lift those and there you will see the gear cases etc......they may have joints that needs grease.....you will have to inspect all this......good luck man.

I might have found a new angled picture of the hurth 630 transmission that might have answered my question. It sort of appears that there might be a hole all the way through the transmission. I think the prop shaft enters the front (Bell Housing End) of the transmission and then goes all the way out the back side there it bolts to the output flange on the transmission. The angle of the output flange makes more sense this way too. This to me makes much more sense, as none of my documentation mentions any other gear cases, and I just don't see how there could be room for any other parts in there. I am going to try to look again more closely this next weekend when I am at the boat. I am trying to figure out if I need to pull the tranmission if it is better done while in the water or while on a trailer. The height while on the trailer is a problem as I don't think I will be able to get it lifted out of there without some other equipment, but I don't have any place to get the boat inside, and that would be able to lift from that high up. On a dock, I could likely manage, but then again if the prop shaft has to be removed, I assume that is not possible while in the water.

Sounds like you have Hurth vdrives and I recall the shaft protrudes through and coupling flange is attached from above. Look up HSW630v online.
Depending when the clunk occurs you may find it is gear backlash which can occur if your engine idle is too low. Does it go away when you start picking up rom? If so check your engine manufacturers idle rpm preferably in gear if they show it.
You should be able to remove the tranny in the water but take precautions the shaft can’t slide too far depending on the seal configuration. You need to also ensure you have room to clear the shaft when removing the tranny.
While out check your drive damper bolted to the flywheel as it could have wear and tear of the springs or rubber blocks depending on what you have.
Regardless if you do it in or out of the water the final shaft alignment should be done in the water after the boat has settled.
