97' 355 AC, Fuel Selector Switch

Postby Cork the Whine » June 15th, 2020, 10:22 am

Hi all,

We own a "new to us" boat. My question regards the fuel selector valves w/ twin Crusader 454's. I recently filled up the three tanks, Port, Starboard and Aux. When the port fuel selector switch is in the port position for the port engine and the starboard duel selector switch is in the starboard position for the starboard engine will they both draw from the aux tank? Or, can I only draw from the aux tank in the "Aux position" on both selector valves. We ran for about an hour and a half at 3400rpm and I saw fuel use from both port and starboard tank but nothing from the aux tank, still shows full.

Thanks!

If you're fuel panel is like mine you will see where you can pull fuel from either one main tank, or the aux tank. You can also return the fuel from one tank to the other, or from one tank back to itself.
You will only use fuel from the aux tank if it is selected.

Your 356 is similar to my 405 and crusader xli engines I assume..
I have 2 aft aux tanks. And i believe You have one big aft aux tank and you should be able to select that as a source for either or both engines. And unless someones done something strange i believe you will find whatever valved tank you choose the withdraw and return fuel will go back to the same tank. Otherwise you potentially could easily over fill up a tank with excess unused fuel from the return line. So suction and return should be the same tank
