Props not as stated

I bought a set of props from a seller that he stated were 22 x 21 for my 390CPMY. The shafts were 1.5” so I would need the brass adapter to step down to 1 3/8” no issue here. My WOT range is 4000 to 4400. I am able to , on a GOOD day hit 4000, usually I am in the 3900 range. We run HEAVY all the time. Full fuel and water, LOTS of provisions. ANYWAY, prop shop called and said after a scan the props measure 21.2 and 20.7 and 21 pitch respectively. They originally wanted to pitch at 22 x 20 for the 4400 number, by his calculations.

I am waiting to speak to him today, as he is one of the most respected prop shops around. He is suggesting we make both 21.2 x 21 pitch. I respect his suggestion, but looking for opinions on running a 3/4” smaller prop than the 22 spec’d. I guess I should have bought new, as these were a great price at $340.00 each with shipping. However, tune is $516.00 each Nd adaptive $1.15.00. SO I am at $950.00/prop. However a new one is $1760.00 from him. What are your opinions. I am still at 1/2 price of new, so I guess I am still in good shape.

FYI, used props are just that, used. They may have been rebuilt many times which normally results in smaller diameter than original with each rebuild.

Paypal won't do you much good. I had a problem with something that I had purchased on line and not delivered but Paypal showed that it had been delivered so too bad. My credit card company went after the seller and I got a full refund. Jim

Setting the "spares" security aspect aside, why was the purchase made?

It was made because I have 22 x 22 now and cant hit WOT. Usually around 3900, and WOT is 4000 to 4400. I was hoping to get in the middle somewhere. And I dont like not having a spare set aboard so do. I believe these will get me approx another 200 REVS

I agree. After running the "new" props with the new size, you could then retune your stock props to get even better and use these as good spares.
