Crusader 454 ECM R116021G

Postby Baby Lentz Crewz » August 16th, 2024, 11:45 am

Hoping for some help from all you older Carver owners! We are having tachometer issues on the starboard. Checked the tach, it works when connected to port side, doesn't read when attached to starboard. Checked wires and basically, the mechanic thinks it's the ECM. All other systems are running fine on that engine. The part is R116021G. As feared, it is no longer available. I've seen some other forums where they talk about having it repaired and reprogrammed. Does anyone have experience with this or any other suggestions?

Heh there if you pick thru this forum you may find a previous discussion about a module that is under the dash that the tachs and sync gage are attached to. Can't for the life of me remember the correct name for it....This module may be an issue, really not sure if your boat year still has this or not.

Mine was an 01 and it was present there.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.....

I'll check, because the sync isn't working either! There's hope!

The sync guage on my 405 was made by Beade there is a small black box for it.

Ya check all other possibilities before condemning the ECM, they rarely fail. You can also swap ECMs from one side to the other and see if the fault follows the ECM. Knowing the engine model and serial number would help, a tach signal may be coming from somewhere other than the ECM

I will add, IMO , moving ECU's from one side to another requires some knowledge of working with very expensive electronic units that are susceptible to static charges and proper grounding, they can be damaged if mishandled, so be aware.

I agree bud. Ground yourself and be careful removing and reinstalling the harness plug/s on the ECM, break a pin and it's game over.
