Boat Transportation Sarnia to Georgian Bay 2018?

I purchased a new to me 2000 326 Aft that is located in Sarnia and I am contemplating hiring help to transport the boat to Georgian Bay in the spring. I've boated on Erie for the last 10 years so Huron and Georgian Bay are completely new to me.

Likely to dock the boat in Midland area. Anyone know of options for either hiring a captain or transportation company?

To transport the boat on land will require bridge removal and a wide load escort.

Floating the boat is the way to go, best done if you can pick your days. Do weekend runs as far as you are comfortable with each day. It can get very sporty around the Bruce Peninsula with the convergence of different bodies of water, current and winds.

The wave pattern on the Bay will be different than what you are used to on Erie, but proper planning will mitigate any concerns.

There are a bunch of us members that door in the Midland area who will probably ring in.

I'm with Lyndon. There is a place for over-land transportation but for this particular case, I would recommend getting her to home port by water. It'll give you some invaluable experience with her, and likely reveal some quirks that you'll want or need to address once home. The trip by land will likely be pretty pricey given the transport itself and the labour to disassemble and reassemble as required. If the fly-bridge needs to be removed, it'll be a costly endeavor.

I agree with the bunch so far.....with your 10 years on Erie, it will be a piece of cake.....of all the lakes I have been on ,Erie has been the worst for odd wave patterns etc and quick changes. Also you could make it into quite a little adventure if planned properly.....good luck with it and enjoy........

I agree with the others. Your best bet is to take the boat to its new home yourself. You seem to have the boating experience behind you. This will give you a much more intimate feeling for your new to you boat.

Not familiar with that area...what kind of distance is that over water?

Rough guess 180NM to the Bruce Peninsula, 80NM to Midland.

I just drove my 33' aft cabin from Lake Erie to the keys. I don't know the area but I love adventure. If you need help this spring I would do it for the experience. Just pay for my travel from Ohio and back and I would consider doing it.

Agree. I was going to trailer my new to me 1998 350 mariner but decided to floated from Ottawa to Georgian Bay. A trip that I look forward to this spring..."Enjoy and be safe.
