What is this and where does it go?

Postby amanphoto » December 26th, 2017, 5:00 pm

I have this mystery hose in my bilge of my 1999 Carver Mariner 350. I'm not sure where it goes or what it does. The house is laying next to my hot water heater in the salon. It runs down with the other hoses toward the back of the boat.

Note: My hot water heater works great. The hoses from the port engine that supply engine heat are connected and working. Its to small to thread into the pressure relief valve. My drain on the hot water tank is female also so this could not thread into that.

Before I start taking things apart, I was wondering if you all had an idea.

Maybe from a previous heater or repair.....the relief valve looks like it is open???... the drain pipe gone seems to be missing ...... :beergood:
The above is strictly my opinion.

Perhaps the relief valve was changed with a different unit. There should be a hose from the valve leading to the bilge. If it discharges, that's where you want to direct the water rather than splashing it all over the place.

Yes the relief valve is open. I opened it to drain the water tank for winter.

I was under the impression that nothing should be connected to the relief valve. It could cause a restriction and course the unit to blow up.

A hose connected to it is fine and will not cause an issue whatsoever.

Nope. That's why the discharge port on the valve is threaded. They wouldn't do that if they didn't want anything hooked up to it.
