Galley stove exhaust

I have a 1995 aft cabin. 37 foot. Presently I can find no way to vent the cooking area of the galley. However, there is a grill directly over the microwave / stove area which does not seem to Output cold air from the air conditioner. Accordingly, I was wondering if this is in fact an exhaust vent that is not functioning. I can find no switch to cut it on and I have not explored inside the bulkhead to check out the possible duct work if there. I was hoping another owner might be able to let me know if this is in fact a heat exhaust Grill for the galley stoves or not?. Obviously, cooking Within a boat produces a lot of heat load on the air-conditioning if there is no way to vent it. Anyone else with this question or problem? Thanks so much for your help.

Welcome to the forum......if you want to check that ceiling grille re the air conditioning.....hold a paper towel or tissue up against it when air off and then with air on, if it gets sucked up when running could be a return air...that will tell you.

You most likely will find no exhaust vent for the stove. Yes you will have heat to deal with but it's what it is. I have a 405 which I think is very similiar inside. the grille that is horizontal allows heat to escape from microwave cubby the vertical grille is from the forward ac. ductwork in forward storage compartment runs to it

Is the grill you mention in the refrigerator cabinet? If so, it is to vent the refrigerator condensor.

I'm not familiar with the Aft Cabin - but does it have a flybridge? the 3867 santego does and I have been thinking about properly venting the stove area too. Plus, just as with yours, the compressor from the fridge dumps out in the galley as well, and it seems like a mistake that there was never a vent installed.

There is a seating area above the galley that I bet one could pump some ventilation into and then out the side of the boat side. Warrants further thought for sure.

Hello Whodges - you may have figured this out by now but....that grill is an air cond/heat vent. You do not feel cool air because the vent hose is actually an extension of the hose that delivers cool/warm air to your forward stateroom & forward head. The 9000 BTU unit is not quite strong enough to push enough air so you can feel it at the vent above your microwave. The AC unit that is supposed to provide most of the cool to the salon and galley is the 16,000 BTU unit located mid-ship. The venting for the stove is supposed to be provided by the port hole located nearest the stove. Hope your winter is better than ours! er

The galley on our boat does not have a cooktop exhaust fan, nor does it have an opening window or hatch nearby. The Admiral loves to cook on the boat (and I love to eat what she cooks) so a few years ago she asked me to add an exhaust fan over the cooktop. A decent size job but manageable I said to myself, until she added that I cannot infiltrate the cabinet above since there is "Never enough storage space on a boat". The photos are what I came up with. It exits out the port side of the hull and does a respectable job of dealing with cooking smoke/steam/heat...and my dockmates all know when to just happen by for a visit:)

Nice job Dan, I like it.......so what exactly is that tube, I don,t believe I have seen anything quite like that......is the fan in there or ......

Thanks Bud, The tube is actually a new SS motorcycle muffler baffle I polished. It was the right size to fit the bar foot rail wall mount and end cap. The magic is all behind the curtain. I took out the back of the forward stateroom hanging locker to gain access and in there are the hoses, a bilge blower, and some custom tin work to match up the hose connections with the baffle, blower, and exhaust port. To prevent insects from entering, inside the tube is a very fine mesh screen that apparently is used in the production of cannabis (you can find anything on eBay). I can remove the end cap and rinse the screen as needed. Since the hull is cored above the water line I needed to dig out a couple of inches of core where I drilled for the exhaust vent and fill it with epoxy. The only thing in the cabinet above is a screw head for the support strut. The Admiral is happy and I eat well. It's a beautiful thing!

That really does look good and well thought thru.....how did you ever come up with the cycle baffle for the suction. With that level of seat of the pants that is one lucky boat and wife..thanks for sharing......
