80s 3697 Generator Location
Can anyone tell me where the original location is/was for the generator for a Carver Mariner? I'm looking at a boat, that I'm told didn't come with one originally, so I'm looking for info and cost to add one.
Thanks in advance!

Re: 80s 3697 Generator Location
Is there a hatch for it or does the port motor need to come out to add/remove? Any chance you could send/post some engine bay pics of your mariner for me? I can't seem to find any online.

The entire cockpit floor is screwed in. You can unscrew it and lift it out. The first time is tough, they calked it down aa well.
Thanks

Re: 80s 3697 Generator Location
You don't happen a have a picture of your floor removed, do you? I looked through pictures and didn't see one. I can see the screws in your pictures though.
I might need to call Carver on this one: Do you think everything needed (minus the generator) would be present in the boat? I see a place for the switch on the electrical panel but the switch isn't actually there, just a plug.
Thanks! Ben

I have not lifted my deck. I helped a buddy with his.
You'll need the genny, a battery for it, an automatic switch for the genny/shore power, and wiring.

Re: 80s 3697 Generator Location
You'll probably also need to install a thru-hull fitting for raw water intake, seacock, and an exhaust outlet. You'll also need to find a spare pick up on one of the fuel tanks. For this you want to ask other members with the same model and vintage exactly which port and location their unit is hooked up to for fuel. You want to ensure the one you hook up to is the one designed for the generator. The pickup won't go all the way to the bottom of the tank like the main engine ones do. This is intentional and for good reason. The generator will likely have an on-board fuel filter but you may want to consider installing an external spin-on filter/water separator as well.
If you don't already have them, install a CO detector in every cabin as well.

Re: 80s 3697 Generator Location
Viper, this model has a separate fuel tank on the opposite corner. If that tank is low on fuel, the boat leans because of the weight off the genny. If there were no tank there. It would always lean.
The genny feeds exclusively from this small 50 gallon tank.
The tank is also fitted so either or both engines could pull from it.

Re: 80s 3697 Generator Location
Why would anyone order one of these without a generator to begin with? I'm hoping just the generator was removed at some point..... Probably wishful thinking though.
