1985 Carver 3207 – Winterizing

Post by druzinajo »

I’m a first time boater wondering if someone has a checklist, manual or step by step procedure on how to winterize this boat?

Thanks

Your best bet...do you have any experience boating buddies that have been around that block a time or two? Enlist their help to show you the ropes.
You need to winterize..,
Engines
Genset if you have one
AC unit if you have one
Water system
Heads and holding tanks
Sump pumps

Shrink wrap is also a good option if in cold snowy areas.

This might sound silly, but one thing I always forget to "winterize" is the squirt bottles that I leave on the boat. All you have to do is take them out and squirt a few times to get the liquid out of the mechanism so it doesn't freeze and crack it over the winter. Frustrating when you're getting ready for spring prep and none of the squirt bottles will squirt anymore!

I remove all liquids, glues, paste. Nothing that flows except for diesel and the pink stuff remain on the boat. Overkill? Maybe but like to play it safe.

If there is one thing that is new to me and seems to be becoming an issue with several boater is mouse intrusion. I now keep 6 so so poison blocks on board year round in the bilge/engine compartment/under the floor, back that up with about 4 traps and a couple of glue pads for the winter only. Had them once and lucked out. Never again. Only happens during winter layup.

Every boat differs, even the same model year as some will have options others don't. Pretty sure there was an extensive thread last year with a few lists/suggestions. You can try doing a search. It's going to come down to your mechanical abilities and comfort level.

You could always have the pros winterize your boat the first time. Watch them and learn so you can do it yourself in the future.
