96 355 Aft - Kohler Gen not firing up!

Hello All! Looking for some input here. Gen is not firing up and the canister fuel filter is dang near empty? Is this a fuel pump issue?

How much fuel is in the tank? The pick up tube for gensets are always shorter than for the main engine. I had a boat that needed at least 1/3 of a tank for the genset to run.

Got all tanks full. New to the boat so wasn’t sure which tank it pulls from so filled all of them.

Where’s the anti syphon valve?

If you crawl into the bilge just forward of your port engine, you should easily see the fuel line pulling from your port tank with a fuel filter between the tank and gen. At least that is how it is set up on my 356. What kind of fuel filter do you have? Mine are spin on Racors but they are medal and you can't see how much fuel is in it. You have to drain it to know.
I had a mechanic replace my anti siphon and it was either right at the top of the tank or just inside the tank. Not easy to get to, but mine was plugged. As soon as he put the new one in, gen fired up and has run good since.

The antisiphon valve looks just like a brass hose barb. On side connects to an elbow at the tank, the other the fuel hose.
Don't bother trying to clean it. Just replace it.

Talk about coincidence! The Kohler generator on my '96 355 just started giving be problems. It starts up fine, but after about a minute shuts itself off. Anybody else have this issue?

I have canister screw on filter, which had almost no fuel in it when I removed it.

It’s running now!! WOOHOO!! I put a new filter on and filled full of fuel before screwing it into place so the pump wouldn’t need to work so hard t fill it. Sprayed starting fluid into the intake twice and BAM!! She’s running like a million bucks!!

Now, just need to figure out the oil change. LOL!

Hey Sailor Jerry...... if it acts like it’s running out of fuel I’d certainly replace the anti syphon valve as mentioned earlier.
