fuel guages

Post by rjr »

Our boat has the floscan fuel measurement system. Since floscan no longer exists, I wonder if it's time to look at alternatives. The gph and consumption are nice but I feel like I'm tracking fuel amounts in reverse. Call me old fashioned but I'm fine with fuel gauges.

That being said, is it feasible to replace the floscan with gauges? Is it a huge PITA or just the usual boat level PITA?

I'm guessing the technology of gauges has improved.

Comments welcome.

You could always install nmea 2000 flow sensors from lowrance or Garmin in place of the floscans depending on what electronic your using. or you may find parts on ebay to fix your floscsns if you wanted. I would think all wiring is there for your boats oem fuel guages so I don't think that would be such a big deal to put back in. Fuel tank sensors are probably still in the tanks so tracing wires at the helm for guage is probably what's required. Floscan installation will be inline of your fuel hoses .

Go with NMEA 2000 if you can/have that type of electronics already. If you don't, you can start by getting a small NMEA 2000 display for limited data and install a backbone to hook up the flow sensors, then add other peripherals to the backbone in the future as you upgrade your equipment.
