RE: New Owner of 1997 Carver 455
Hi Everybody! We are new owners to a 1997 Carver 455 named "It's About Time". We love the layout of this boat, and plan to make her our Florida home in the 6 worst months of New England weather. If anyone owns one, please let us know so we might be able to find out more about the possible issues and peculiarities of this model. She has Cummins 450s with 1500 hours, and we just serviced the diesels (oil changes, aftercooler replacements, new exhaust wet-side risers, etc. We are docked just inside the Anclote River in Holiday, Florida, and plan to move her further south as time goes on. This is all new to us, as we have only sailed for most of our lives aboard our Pearson 34 in Maine. This 455 is like a floating condo by comparison - VERY comfortable. We hope to cruise to the Keys and to the Bahamas in the coming years of our retirement. We wish you all the very best! - Jonathan (Sloopjonb) and Maria.

Welcome to the power boat world & to the forum. Hope to hear about your adventures frequently. If you have trouble adjusting to power from sailing, just yell at Maria to trim that sail another 32nd of an inch. That will make the adjustment period very short!

LOL, I learned to just do the trimming myself, especially since I am a nut about trim, as you suggest. Sail trim can indeed become an obsession! Thanks!

Re: RE: New Owner of 1997 Carver 455
Thanks! You probably can guess, but that was one EXPENSIVE servicing! The risers had to be manufactured at $2K each, needed one new aftercooler housing (another yikes) with core, and one cleaned. Then changed out all the oil (engines/trannys) new raw water impellers, all new filters, new coolant, etc., etc. The total? $10K OUCH!!! But she runs great and cool now. Money Pit!

Re: RE: New Owner of 1997 Carver 455
That's a heck of a lot cheaper than having to replace the engines due to failed aftercoolers!
