I am the same as Hans and Ron. My "home port" power and TV cables never leave the dock, so I just unplug from the boat and lay them on the dock when leaving. I have a second set on the boat for when we visit other marinas.

You start your genny and turn on the charger.

The Cablemaster by Glendinning is the way to go but as mentioned, it is pricey and does occupy quite a bit of space. It's a nice option though and they're pretty reliable.

And if the genny doesn't work, hook up a portable charger.
My point...just another system that can and will break down and as usual, when it does happen, it happens at the worst possible time.

I definitely get your point but we can say that about anything we add to a boat, heck have you noticed the difference between today's boats and those of just a decade ago? They keep coming with more and more systems/toys as a means to be one up on the competition, hopes of making our boating experience more enjoyable, and a way of digging deeper into our pockets! All that is as you say simply more to go wrong but that's where things have been heading for years now....we like our conveniences.

Would I do it at this time? no, I would spend the money on something else but if I had nothing else to do with it, it would be way easier on my back as I have two 50 amp cords to deal with. I can use 30s too but I like the 50s when I need the power.

You obviously have dual 125v 50A inlets since you have dual 50's. A single 50A 250v is the equivalent so why not upgrade. Only 1 cord to handle and equals 100A @ 125v. The inconvenience is you sometimes need a reverse y adapter if 50a service is not available which can get spendy.

Yes, I do the same. I made a cable that is the proper length for my home slip and the water is the same. The Cable Master would be for when we travel and I need to pull out the longer cable. Its 50', 50 amp cable and it has heavy and difficult to coil up.

Ya I've thought of that but not on my priority list. There is also the drawback that in the absence of a 50 amp service, you'd need two 125v supplies on different legs or the reverse Y won't energize. At some marinas, that can be a pain to get at certain slips and can require additional cords to get to a pedestal that's on a different leg.
