Hey All,
Boats all tucked away and after my lift out hull inspection, I noticed that the exhaust pipes coming out the hull have sealant around them. Just a very small bead, but its a small bead of black sealant. Do you know what type of sealant would be best to use there to re-seal it. Mine is pulling away a little bit and want to get it all sealed up again.
Oh, I have a 2003 396 with Cummins 370B’s installed.

Re: Sealant around the exhaust
It may be 3M 5200 or 4000. They both come in black, white, or clear. The primary difference is 5200 is permanent and the 4000 /4200 is removable if you ever need to replace.

Will 4000 be able to take the heat? I worry about the 5200 and it being so permanent. With my luck as soon as the 5200 cured, I’d find an issue with the exhaust and have to remove it. LOL.

Re: Sealant around the exhaust
Heat shouldn't be an issue with wet exhaust. If it actually pulling away, someone probably put some silicone around it.
If you think there is a problem, you should loosen the thru hull outlet clean all the 5200, reapply and reseat.
