RAIN WATER LEAK INTO VOYAGER 450 GUEST STATEROOM A/C DUCT

RAIN WATER LEAK INTO VOYAGER 450 GUEST STATEROOM A/C DUCT

It was a new issue this year and I thought I would post this to help someone else. I kept finding fresh water in the forward most bilge compartment. In heavy rain the carpet forward of the access hatch would be wet. I found the water entering through the inside of the A/C duct of the forward stateroom. After taking apart the bed and its supporting panels I found the uppermost end of the flexible duct where it connects to the vertical duct, inaccessible (and my arms are long).

After several days of investigating, I found that the flexible duct connects to the lower end of a formed plywood duct that is inside the anchor chain locker at the bow. After 20 years (1999 model) it seems the joints between the floor, bulkhead and duct had water intrusion that froze over the winter and the joints opened up (see photos). The cure for me was West System epoxy tubes into the vertical seams and pour in epoxy into the horizontal seams and floor area.

Hope this will aid anyone with a similar issue.

Rich

Thank you for this. I just purchased a 99 450 Voyager and during the survey found the anchor locker full of water. My first project is to clean that beauty out. And while I am at it, I am going to mark the anchor chain and Rode for easy measuring while anchoring.

Much obliged.

It sure did. All photos were prior to the repair to show actual situation. All good now, and dry..... inside and out. I use multiple colors of nylon zip ties at 25 foot marks.

Do you have a windlass and then do the zip ties go through the windlass okay?
