Diesel Air Intake Fuse

Post by charlesjsavage »

Hello all and to say I have been beating my head against a bulkhead would be a understatement! I have a 2000 Carver 404 with Cummins 6BT diesels and while doing some inspections found 1 of my air "intake fans" were inoperable. Decided to change both and all was going well until clumsy me arched the wire and apparently have blown a fuse. Here is my problem, after checking for days no fuse can be found. Zero reference in the wiring diagram of these fans at all. Thanks

Just an idea, look for a blower breaker in your panel under the front helm seat.

Yup, just looked it up. The breaker is located in the 12 volt Bridge Breaker Panel.

Those are the Bilge Blowers breakers (2) and thank you I did check them again. No fan breakers that I can find and I checked the wiring diagram again with no results.

Charles, is there a switch for these fans or are they automatic?
If there is a switch at he helm, i would think the breaker would be there, try flipping them all off and then back on. Also a possibility someone added inline fuses, maybe under the helm?

If they are automatic, I would look for fuses or breakers on the engine(s) maybe.

They came on when you turned the key on. In the process of getting my engine book and seeing if it comes off that circuit. Checked for a inline fuse to the point it left the helm area and as far back as I could check in the loom from the fan side. I agree and think the engine is my best be now.

There might be a controller for them as they usually stay on for a while after the engines are shut down, some OEMs anyway.

OK I have found the problem. Unfortunately it will not help with your un-modified boats out there as it was from a previous owners wiring. But I did get the chance to find out how the original was wired. First there are two breakers in the bridge area panel, one is marked for the bilge fan (outgoing bilge blower, switch control is on port dash) the other is also marked blower but is wired so that it come on when the key is turned on.
Mine was re-routed to a switch on the generator control panel downstairs. I guess the previous owner wanted to give the generator a little more fresh air.
Thanks for everyone's help!
