eyelet???

Postby Grafunkus » October 17th, 2015, 10:43 am

Our boat was hauled out last week and we got a call from the marina that the eyelet (or what ever it is actually called) that they hook the winch up to is loose and should be fixed. First of all, what is that called? Secondly, is it a diy or should we be calling a boat repair guy?

This is usually a crome plated eyelet below the pulpit. I hope your hauler is not pulling by it.
It should be used as safety measure to keep the boat from sliding back while hauling. I would check the blocking behind where the eyelet enters the boat and determine if there is any damage to that and the fiberglass. If your skills are not up to the repair definitely call the man.
I am surprised a 13,000 lb boat even has one. my hauler tied back to the cleats on both sides of my mariner.

Thanks for the information. We will check with the hauler to find out what actually happens. We weren't present when it was hauled and it is the same company that hauled for the previous owner. We just assumed that they knew what they were doing.
