Carver 350 Mariner AC

We are starting to get HOT here in Texas and the ac in our 350 just can't seem to keep up. It's a Ocean Breeze 18,500 BTU unit. I'm thinking of replacing it with 2 MarinAire units, 16,000 BTU for the salon/galley and 9,000 for the bedroom/head. I'm estimating around 1300 cubic ft. of space to heat and cool which at 17 btu per cubic ft is just about 22,100 btu. Has anyone out there added a second unit to their Mariner? Any input is appeciated.

That should work well. I have a 16,000 for the main cabin, a 9000 for the aft cabin and aft head. The front cabin has an 11000 which does the cabin, head and partial into the main salon.

The newer units work more efficiently and not to mention being much more quiet in the case of the MarinAire. You are also adding 6500 btu which will make a world of difference.

Just make certain you don't get to close to your 30amp breaker capacity with three units. You may have to stagger start them.

I have 2 new MarinAire units on the way along with 2 soft start modules.

UPDATE: Got the 16,000 BTU in and it has made a BIG difference, it is just time consuming but so far so good. One obstacle is that the control cable from the old unit did not work with the new unit. After a close look all I had to do was crimp a new rj45 connector on the cable and it worked fine, a lot easier that fishing a new cable. Old cable was like a crossover cable and it needed to be just a regular cable. Next is adding the second 9000 BTU unit under the dinette table. It's 3' to power, raw water pump and the spot to add the discharge line. It's almost august here and we'll need it.

Did yours have a roughed in 110 power line, it was just cut with tape over it ?....Ours did ...it was in that bundle under the seat bin access. Never did look for the other end though behind the panel.

Looks like romex electric wire, all looked factory.

Just a quick update:
Both units are in and running fine. Took a little longer than expected but other projects got in the way. It was 93F outside today and 72F inside the boat. I'm very happy with the MarinAire units performance, we ran the 16K unit for a month before getting the 9k unit added it today.
On to the next project.
