SIGH……..winterization!

My boat is in salt water and stays there during the winter, I only drain the fresh water tank and blow my fresh water lines with air and drain the water heater. I have 2 each de-frosters standby in the boat that will kick in at 1 deg. C. Here in Holland at the coast line the temperature will decrease max to -5 C. So the temp. inside the boat will never below 0 deg C.
Always take the boat out of the water in spring to do the necessary maintenance. This works fine for me. But I understand the SIGHHH.... for all you guys in Canada and North-US. Stay safe.

Those of us here in North America really cannot leave our boats in the water all winter although those who live aboard do. I feel much safer pulling and winterizing.

Yes, that is the cover for my Perko strainer. That is the small one for my genset. I have the next larger size covers for my main engine strainers. Along with my bucket and a short attached hose, makes winterizing a breeze. With my dock water hose, I can fresh water flush anytime I want as well.

Tony, if it's too difficult for you to drill and tap the lid, you can accomplish the same thing by removing the fitting from the strainer outlet and insert a tee then reattach the hose. Off the top of the tee you would attach your valve and a means to attach a hose. BTW, you need to have a means to cap it off when not in use, don't relay solely on the valve.

Thank you. I have had that idea also. I would lean towards that with a ball valve and a pipe cap on the end. It will be much easier to take off the cap than try and feed fluid(S) through the top of the strainer. Also, This can be done without equipment running also!

Just a reminder......when adding any fittings to the raw water side, try to make sure you are installing the correct type ( metal).....
