2003 Carver 444 cabin ceiling light lens replacement

Post by bobkirkbride »

The small plastic tabs used to snap the lens cap onto the light base have broken on several of my cabin ceiling lights. This lens cap is not listed on my Carver replacement parts list and I have not had any luck finding just the lens cap on the internet. All the sites just sell the whole light fixture. The lens cap is 2 1/2 inches in diameter with a translucent lens and a silver beasal. Does anyone know where you can buy these caps?

Pretty sure they are the same lights I have in my 356 and they haven’t been made in some time. Unless you find a stash of used ones somewhere, you have to replace the whole fixture which means it’s a great time to replace those very hot halogens with LED’s. And if by chance you do find some caps, still replace the halogen bulbs with LED’s. You won’t be sorry.

I replaced all my bulbs with LED bulbs as the halogen ones run too hot and make the caps brittle.

I had one “lens cap” that broke. Instead of replacing the entire fixture, I put a couple dabs of clear silicone on the bottom of the cap and put it back up, holding it with a bit of masking tape till it dried. Worked great.

In my 356 I did the same thing, even on a cap that broke into three pieces. It was hard to tell unless you looked really close.

As for the ones I fixed that just had broken tabs, you would never know.

It is a quick fix and you don’t have to spend a ton of money for new fixtures.

Good idea on fixing the caps and yes, those halogens are hot. I measured mine around 200 degrees. LED replacements were around 120 and they last 5-10 times longer

Not sure which light fixture they used in 96 however many over several years used the same type. Here is a link to a replacement which is by far the best fix. Believe me, even the base is brittle and about to fall off on all your lights. These were basically a drop in on all my fixtures apart from wiring them in. https://www.amazon.com/Dream-Lighting-R ... p_d_rp_6_t
