3807 Exhaust

Post by larst »

Hi all 3807 Captains,
I have a -89 3807 where the starboard engine is exremely loud. I think it may stem from a backfire?
Anyway, the noise comes from the exhaust chamber and it is rattling loudly.
I hear that there used to be a coversion kit for this purpose......
Does anyone have any information or installation instructions for this kit?
Does anyone have any advice on how to remedy this this problem?
I really don't want to cut a big hole in the boat from the outside to access the chamber.
Any thoughts on this matter would be much appreciated!

If boat is equiped with Mercruiser motor, you will have enough room to install vertical mufflers. This will make the boat so quiet, you could sneak up on the Pope. Vernalift will work

Ron, did you do that to yours? I'm thinking of doing the same thing but wasn't sure if the geometry would work and weather there's enough room back there for everything. If you did it, pics would be great and the muffler numbers you used. Don't know what in/out configuration would work best but haven't spent much time on assessing yet. I just know I'd be dealing with 4" ports.

Easy job, you will need to make a small wood or star board base for the muffler. This base will set height for your hose connections. Your current hoses will work with some triming. I found a used set to save some money. Vernalift is the name. No more rumble or loud exhaust when running. I will check for photos.

 Do you have the muffler part numbers you used?
Did a floor across the top of the two stringers behind the engines work for height?

Had to make a platform out of starboard to support muffler base and to set height for exhaust hose line up.
