2002 Carver 346 6.2 MPI
I am new to this forum and in the process of purchasing a 2002 Carver 346 6.2 MPI Mercruisers and looking for some info.
As with any purchase I make, I always start off with changing the basics. Oil, plugs, filters, that way I know it has been done and I start with a fresh "pallet". What do you guys recommend for the following?
Side note: I believe I only have a few days to get this stuff done as the boat will be put in the marinas storage yard within the next week or so for the winter and would at least like to change the oil and filters.
1. Oil. Not knowing what has been used by the current owner, what oil would you guys recommend? (I am a fan of Amsoil and Mobile)
2. Oil filter.
3. Spark plugs (NGK)
4. Fuel filter
What is your favourite oil extractor?
Any help would be much appreciated as I am short on time. I normally enjoy researching this type of stuff but with limited time, I feel it would be of great help to reach out to this forum for help so I can get this stuff done in a timely manor.
Cheers

Ya there can't be any guess work here with some components so the serial numbers are a must.
I'm an OEM guy so I say Merc 25W-40 marine oil and Merc 35-866340K01 or Quicksilver equivalent for the oil filter. Do the oil changes now.
If you're going to change your plugs, you might as well change the distributor caps and rotors, then you know that except for the plug wires, your ignition system should be performing to spec.
Don't forget to replace the impellers if you don't know the last time they were done. I wouldn't do it until the Spring though, same for ignition system components.
I prefer the electric extractors with a pump mounted on top of a pail like those made by Jabsco or Johnson. More expensive than the manual vacuum pumps but way faster and more useful in some applications.
BTW, if it applies, don't forget to do the same for your generator.

Unfortunately I do not have that info at hand at the moment. Not sure if it would help? But I do have the hull number.
