Cleaning floors - 36' size - options?

Post by John Easley »

Good Morning,

For those of you who have a boat in the 36' length... a Mariner, aft cabin or Sport Sedan... what do you do for a vacuum? A Swiffer pad mop would probably be fine for the small amount of hard surface flooring but what about the carpets? Do you install a central vac system? Seems unlikely those would reach the bridge. Or pick up a small but powerful wet/dry vac from Home Depot, add a wand for ease and comfort, and then store it below decks until needed? Or bring a full size vac from home and leave it laying on the guest bed to discourage overnight visits? ;-) I'm interested in hearing your solutions to keeping things tidy.

Thanks.

John

I have had centrals on my boats in the past. If you want to go central then Dirt Devil is the cats meow. Quiet, powerful and the hose is very practical as it is only 7" long however stretches to 35'. http://www.campingworld.ca/shopping/ite ... bags/69640 That being said if you have short tight pile carpeting and lots of hard surface, I really like a Dyson V6 rechargeable. Only drawback is it needs 110v to charge for several hours so somebody at anchor for long periods this option may not be so good. On the other hand if you do not have a generator at least the Dyson will work with no AC. http://www.costco.ca/Dyson-v6-Slim-Stic ... 46831.html

I have the dirt devil central vac in my camper but instead of installing in my 405 carver we bought a shark rocket. There's no bag to change its lightweight and equals the dyson but way cheaper. This breaks down and takes up very small amount of storage space. We bought a costco which at the time was $129 there's different models so prices are subject to change

My boat is not allowed to get dirty.

Seriously, we have taken Sunbrella and made snap in runners over the main traffic areas. Unsnap them and shake them out or throw them in the washer.
We dock in front of our home, so we just drag a vac cleaner out as needed.
Thanks

I have a Miele canister vac on board and wouldn't be without it. We have dogs and a cat on board and the fur and sand they drag in is unreal. It is small enough to sit on the floor of our hanging locker in the master. I carry it up to the flybridge to do the carpet up there as well.

Thanks everybody. The Shark Rocket Deluxe Pro looks like a great choice and the portability would make it so versatile.
