Hi Fellow Boater
I was cruising with my Carver 404 when I had a strong smell of gas thoughtout the boat. Also lost power in what I determined to be the starboard engine. Engine turns over but will not start now. Seems like a fuel line/system issues
Any thoughts or ideas would be great.
Thanks
Rich

Gas leak is serious stuff. Have it checked out immediately! Could be several things from ruptured tank to split/disconnected fuel line to loose fuel filter. You really need to get into the bilge as no guessing is going to be close. Just a tip, do not smoke while you are in there.

Is there any signs of leakage? Fuel in the bilge?
I would ventilate and not use the boat until I find the source
Are you sure it wad a raw fuel smell or the smell of combustion?

Hi Wave and Scurvy
Thanks for your thoughts, good advice (esp the smoking
)
I talked with the service guy at the Marina where I have service done and he thinks it might be a spark plug issue or carburetor (although I though since mine has a fuel pump, it wouldn't have a carburetor, but this is beyond my knowledge base),
Going to have it towed over to the marina service garage, agree it is not worth the risk.
Thanks again and safe boating

If your mechanic thinks it is a spark plug or a carburetor, I would find a new mechanic. One plug wont make your boat smell like gas, and you have no carburetors on your engines. They are EFI.
