A/C condensation in galley bilge

Post by Scavenger »

I own a 88 mariner 3297. I have noticed water in the bilge. I know it's coming from the a/c condensation. Is that normal or is there a drain line broken? Only jade the boat since July but love it.

It's very possible that the AC evaporation pan is draining into the bilge. You could plumb it into the shower sump if the evaporator pan drain is not plugged off. Our 1986 3297 got water in the front bilge a lot and I too thought I had a leak somewhere, then while the boat was on dry dock and uncovered I noticed water in the front bilge after a rain storm. I assumed somewhere the deck or fly bridge drained into the bilge. Also make sure the anchor locker drain is clear, spiders will fill up the drain hole and that area will also drain into the front bilge. Also check the AC circulating pump, strainer and sea cock are not leaking. Mike

usually the a/c drain is piped to the shower sump. Some after market installers just let it drain into the bilge.

Yep. My 3007 had its A/C system installed aftermarket. It drains into the bilge and then is pumped overboard when the bilge pump is activated.
