Here is what I'm going to do first.
Pull the plugs
Fog the cylinders
Turn engine over by hand
refog cylinders
turn engine over with starter
check spark
reinstall plugs
remove fuel line to carb
put a line from carb into a 5gal jug with fresh gas w/lead additive.
Hook up muffs to water hose
Then try to fire her up
after that check compression.
if all goes well I fallow Waybomb list and prepair for a shakedown cruise in sping.
Yes I will rewinterizer it before winter.

Engines in my boat were froze solid from sitting still all those years.
I attempted to break them lose using the crank bolt but that wasn't working.
That's why I took the dampener off, so I could use a proper crank hub socket to rock the crank back and forth. You won't do that with the bolt of the Rings are stuck at all.
Btw, the engines only had about 250 hours on them.

Today I brought the girl home. remove plugs, fogged the cylinders, turned engine over by hand several times, turn over with the starter, we have spark at the plugs. Next step is to run the fuel line to a 5gal jug of fuel and see if it starts. the fresh water pick up I would not be able to use the ear muffs. So could I use a cut off 55 gal drum and lower the stern drive into the water along with a garden hose running to keep the drum full and then start the engine. by the way there in no fresh water pump with a rubber impeller. I looks like it uses a conventional engine water pump.

Just remember that 55 gallon drum will get hot quickly.
Can you adapt a garden hose to the hose leading from the sea cock?

The raw water pump is in the outdrive. It supplies water to the conventional water pump on the engine. The engine pump will not pull water from the barrel. If you start it and it doesnt move water shut it down asap. You will crack your manifolds before it registers an over heat with no water in the engine.

The water muffs will not work on this drive. What do you think about using a cut off 55gal drum of water with the garden hose running into it and lowering the stern into the drum of water?

Yes the raw water pump pulls the water through the out drive and into the engine water pump if raw water cooled.
Into a heat exchanger if fresh water cooled. Then out the exhaust manifolds and back down the drive exiting through the prop.
If the pump has any vanes on it after sitting for 16 years they will all be gone after a couple revolutionS of the engine.
Then no cooling water to the engine.

Also this drive should have a port to connect a garden hose to just under the water pump about a foot from the bootie if I remember correctly
