Re: 1987 36 Mariner - back to life!
Yesterday pulled an old transducer out of the hull (always fun!), and prepped for the new tri-ducer. Have to trim the fairing block a bit. Ran some pulling wires wires from the bridge to the bilge. Scoped out next steps to run a new power bus to the bridge. Wife did some more cleaning and waxing.
Not a project filled Saturday, but one less day of work to do.

Re: 1987 36 Mariner - back to life!
Picked up 60 yards of surplus 60" wide Sunbrella from Thunderbird in Decatur (600 bucks for the roll, 10 bucks a yard for real sunbrella!). We have enough for the flybridge, the rear seat, covers for all the bridge seating, weather cover over the cockpit, and probably enough for one more time!
Started doing the canvas this weekend. We actually got so far as to sew on the three middle zippers, and it is nice and tight. Next is the front zipper, then sew on the slides for the arch, then start side and front clear vinyl.
Never did it from scratch before, but bought a kit with instructions and clamps and so far so good. In the past we've fixed tears, replaced zippers, replaced clear vinyl that wasn't so clear anymore.
Using a Viking 6000 series and a Consew 18 for the sewing.

Amazing transformation! It's a shame it was neglected like that.

I don't believe I have ever seen blue canvas on a Carver.

Re: 1987 36 Mariner - back to life!
The best part - 100% paid for cash!
Yes, it's a shame it got to where it got. If the previous owners would have simply kept it shrunk wrapped, they could have at least recouped some of their money.
We paid $3,500 for it. With taxes, moving overland, winter storage, everything we've purchased, everything, we have about $20,000 in her now, which includes the granite counter tops. Still to buy:
New Carpet, inside and outside (about 1500)
300 gallons of fuel (1200)
I'd like to replace the a/c units with Webasto units. (3k total)
I'd like autopilot, but not a need (maybe 1500 or better)
This year I'll be installing the radar and chartplotter/fishfinder on top of the dash. Next winter, first thing, I'm pulling the dash and sending it to my kid in Florida. He'll make a new one completely out of heavy weave carbon fiber. Plan on flush mounting the electronics, and replacing the myriad of gauges with a few compound gages.

Our first was a brand new 88 Riviera - it had Med Blue Sunbrella. Our second Carver was 1989 42 aft, it also came with Med Blue sunbrella. From a distance, that color looks just like what we picked up from Thunderbird boats. Only the Med blue was a lighter blue with a black thread every few threads, so it looked dark like the blue we just bought. The folks at Thunderbird said that what we bought was custom made for them.
Thanks
