Hi, and thanks for the response. As you mentioned, he said it could be repaired and estimated $5K. unfortunately the crack perfectly outlined the pad of the stand which had been repositioned and you could deflect the area upward with moderate hand pressure. The vessel supposedly settled into soft soil while on the stands or from the looks of it perhaps the stand got frost heaved upward into the side. it has me wondering if the Pasco warnings about thin Carver hulls should have me walking away from the deal.

Under the right conditions, that will happen to any brand. I think the bigger question is whether the yard did their due diligence at inspecting the stands periodically as should be done while any boat is on soft ground that will move with differing temps. I don't think any hull is designed to have the entire vessel's weight supported on a one square foot area of a jack stand. Unless someone qualified can tell you for a fact that there was a structural failure simply due to design or fabrication, I'd say it was due to improper blocking or the lack of regular adjustments, or a previous impact repair gone wrong. Sounds like the jack stand was improperly placed plus a combo of soft ground under the keel which contributed to the failure. The jack stand is always positioned on the edge so it partially sits on the chine which has a heck of a lot more strength than anywhere inwards of the chine. Is there damage to the chine?

There is always more, isn't there... .......have someone that really knows boat structure have a good look at this before you continue, as there can be other damage hidden that may not show up for a while.....good luck man and be careful.

I agree with the others, you can destroy any manufacturers boat with incompetent yard practices. Boats are designed to float not sit in parking lots or yards, that is why extra care must be taken.

I agree with the improper stand placement. Should be on a chine or under a bulkhead or (large) stringer.

But it most likely can be repaired in 'like new' condition with a good shop.

Thanks for all the support, bit the big one today and won the bid. Once the wife and I get a week of cleaning done perhaps we will be ready to pronounce being proud owners. But, really we are we got bit by the bug 5 years ago and are looking forward to setting sunsets from our new to us 466 Hardtop! Some new canvas and we'll be looking sharp!

Lyndon, That is a sweet looking 506, wow! The 466 was at Marina Bay Quincy MA and I believe it was the same boat you had surveyed. Needless to say I guess my survey wasn't as thorough as yours because I swallowed the hook line and sinker. With $20+K of rudder and hull work and some pricy engine repairs we managed to get the boat up to Hampton NH and enjoy some wonderful sunsets before pulling the boat last month. I'm still dealing with some vibration issue portside and I'm curious to know what your survey may have uncovered? Thanks,
