Its the service manual. If yours states owners it's not the same. Also the manual number on the front is TP 5414 look on the front of your manual and verify it's not the same it should be different if it's a owners manual.I'll also chrck my owners manual for the number.

dsolo,
I had this same issue with my 2004 10E Kohler in 2010. After much trouble shooting it turned out to be the Governor Controller Board. I made the mistake of purchasing it from an electrical supply house who said they were an authorized dealer but in reality was not supposed to sell it to an end user, and for good reason. It needs to be programed prior to installation and they didn't offer that service. After speaking with Total Energy Systems (not the organization I bought it from) they offered to program it for me. I had it back less than a week after I shipped it to them. It solved the issue and the generator has been running fine ever since. Total Energy really stepped up when they didn't have to. ---> :worthy: BTW they also had me clean and reset the flywheel pick up sensor. Even though it was not the issue they felt it should be done as a matter of course.

Thanks for the information regarding the governor PCB. I am waiting to hear whether the mag-pickup is good. Marina had to order a 1K resistor, which took a week to get?? I also had to provide the test procedure to them. They know very little about Kohler gensets.

I suspect the governor PCB is bad. I should have results of the mag-pickup test Monday. I found a used PCB on eBay for $87. The seller can't garantee it, but will refund the$$ if found to not work. It is the original assembly and will not require programming.

I will take your recommendations on Total energy if needed. Are they listed on the website as a Kohler dealer?

Dan

Tested the speed pick up component. Applied 12 vdc with a 1K resistor in-line. Passed a metallic object across sensor and read open. No voltage at all. Net mag-pickup is $200 usd. Wish I knew the Honeywell part number, I am sure it is in the $30 range. You gotta love boating to put up with the price gouging.

Just an update on the generator repair. Purchased the speed pick up from Kohler. Paid the $200 usd and waited a week for delivery. Fortunately the sensor was the problem. Up and running. Thanks for all the good input and manuals. Love this forum. Dan
