If I were you I would focus on trying to find a new transmission (New or good Used) to swap that one out with. A rebuild costs about 500-600. I saw a used for 495 but its no longer available. When the guys come out to remove the bad trans just have them swap it and be done with it. Youll save money on not having them to ship it, making multiple trips, farting around with the bad trans....

Thanks good idea. I need to find one. Where did you see it? I don't know what to llok for, any ideas? is based on the engine make/model?

Your going to have to find the trans tag so you get the correct one with the right ratio!

I agree with the swap out if you can find a match. Much easier to take the old one out and put a new(or rebuilt) one in at the same time, rather than trying to get on the schedule again to put the one in. You can rebuild the current one and keep as a "spare" for future issues. Not sure if your port and starboard are the same, but mine are identical other than the indexing of the pump (I believe).

Yes likely tranny issue. There does seem to be corrosion so I assume they checked to ensure corrosion isn't preventing the lever from moving? Can the shaft be turned by hand?

I am not sure. They don't like questions
questions seem to annoy mechanics. I was assured it was tranny, not sure without opening up anything. Like I said 2 weeks ago it acted up, but then it worked fine for rest of trip back to port about 30 minutes run. and a week later, not budging. Could that indicate anything whether its transmission or just corrosion issue.-

The only issues I'd have with installing another transmission is that you don't know what you're getting in a used one. May work now but for how long? The only way to tell for sure that it's in good condition is to open it up but that puts you right back to just sticking with the one you already have. As far as getting a rebuilt one, who rebuilt it? What do they consider a "rebuild"? Was it a reputable marine gear shop that does them all the time? If you're getting a rebuilt unit from someone, ask for the invoice so you can see what was done. If the marina sends your unit out, chances are it'll be to someone that they've likely dealt with before and has experience with rebuilding these.....ask. Then you'll know what you're putting back in.
The other thing to consider is that if you have your marina send the unit out for a rebuild and the unit fails soon after, the marina and their subcontractor are on the hook to make it right, not you. If you supply the unit, you'll have to deal with the supplier yourself who is not on sight and likely won't be very motivated to look after you, and you'll have to pay the marina to re and re the unit for you again.
It's not always about how much you can save, sometimes it's about peace of mind. That could be worth way more than you think you're saving up front. Either way, ask what the warranty is.

Viper, I agree, That's why I decided to go with the guys who worked on the port engine last year. As you said they will remove, send it to their guys and put it back in. So from my perspective there is single point of contact if there is an issue.

Good choice, so long as they are competent I don't think you will regret that...
Only one question, did anyone come out and test trans pressures, just curious.......

Not yet, I just talked to them this morning. They are mercruiser certified and they are pretty good. I was happy with the work last year. The people who told me transmission issue is different mechanic. These guys have all types of test equipment needed. So I am hoping once they come out and check, maybe they may say it's some thing easy fix (wishful thinking
).
