The keel repair sounds excessive and more of an upgrade than just a repair.
On the keel, it sounds very similar to mine. I would contact Carver about it for more info. What it sounds like they are proposing is not just repairing the damage to the keel, but rebuilding it to make it a structural part of the boat... which was not the way it was initially constructed. If it is like mine, that last 3' (2' on mine) is just a faring and not a structural part of the keel. It is hollow and could fill with water if punctured, but does not impact the integrity of the hull. I'm guessing they added this section to help control problems with beam windage on the aft cabins. Drilling and drying is important, but as Viper suggests can be done much quicker with the right gear.
Question for the others familiar with these boats... was it common to use "multiple layers of plywood" in either the pulpit or the forward deck?? Should I expect that in my 83 3607?
