Ended up installing a washable filter screen on the hot line exiting the heater. This will take care of any sediment as mentioned. Thanks for the recommendation Viper. :drunk:

Maybe you should be on the design team of some of these boat manufactures. Nah that won't happen, they'd never sell any replacements then!

Do you folks leave your water heater running while not at the boat? I have only done that a few times (a couple inadvertently). Since they have a defined lifetime based on runtime, temperature and water quality I think you can greatly extend the lifetime by not running them when you're not using them. Takes an hour or so to get hot water when you first get to the boat, but then there's no difference until your next trip to the boat.

We only turn ours on when needed. About 20 minutes before a shower etc. Then turn it back off. Doesn't take long to heat 11 gallons.

Once we leave for the week, we turn ours off. Been doing that to all the boats that we had that had a heater. More of a habit now more that anything. We also installed a water filter on the line coming onto the boat, I hope it helps catch sedimet , now at least the water smells great! Love the idea of a filter on the hot water tank Hans!!!!

On every boat I have had that had a water heater I turned it off when not needed or when leaving the boat.

I turn all systems off when I leave the marina. Major fire at nearby marina 3 years ago was caused by a batt charger that went bad on an unattended boat. 4 boats totally burned. 8-) er

In 25 years, we alway unplug the boat when we leave on Sunday, and not just turn shore water off, but disconnect the hose as well.
