I am in the market for a new TV for my home. Will most likely be getting a 65" LG OLED 4K TV. I currently have a 51" Samsung Plasma. My son thinks I should move it to the boat when I get my new one. I only have a 30' vessel so that probably will not happen although it would be kind of unique.

Came within seconds of going for the Oled however I like to research my stuff and after mucho browsing I could not convince myself that burn in was not a problem so I stuck with led. Call me chicken shit, I don't care. Not to say things have not changed/improved over the year but you may want to read this. Just some friendly advice. Interesting article. It definitely gives me something to think about. Screen burn is something that goes all the way back to tube TV's. But, spending $2600 or more on a TV that could be made less viable down the road gives cause for pause. I've been monitoring this TV for 10 months now at my local Best Buy. They are running the same program day after day on a loop. Next time I visit there I will look specifically for any image retention when the scene changes.

Even my current plasma TV came with some warnings about screen burn. Leaving a scene on for a long time could cause a problem. I don't play any video games on my televisions. In fact I don't even have any video game playing devices. After reading the article it would seem that for most if not all normal TV viewing there should be no issues.

Now I have to wonder if there are similar issues with Samsungs QLED TV's. It it a similar presentation method as OLED. What are the differences. Guess more research is needed. My current Samsung Plasma is several years old and I have not had any issues with screen burn so far.

Why can't life be simple.

Brings to mind......saw a new style flat TV a while back that I don't think was any thicker than a 1/4".... now that is something. I wonder if that had a place to instal a mount ?

I am thinking to install one of those articulating mounts inside the cabinet that originally housed the tv......then the tv would cover the opening...that would serve as a door and could be moved to access behind......much like the one on the doors, I just don't think I have the skill to match the woods like that........

Speaking of home tv's. I had purchased the new Sony XBR900 LED. The 55" had an excellent picture but more important to me, very little motion blur. It sat on a low tv console. This replaced a 42" Samsung Plasma which had no motion blur.
One day while vacuuming I inadvertently 'bumped' into the screen with the vacuum handle. The next time I turned on the set...UGH!!!! These screens are SENSITIVE!!! Much more so then the plasma sets. The unit was damaged beyond repair, so I donated it to my son-in-law who will try to replace the screen and hopefully get a new set out of the deal.
So I went out and purchased the LG 55" OLED, which I am sure has a much more very sensitive screen.
Picture is unbelievable, especially in 4K. Almost looks 3D. Still a bit of motion blur but the quality of the image outweighs the blur.
It's a little pricey, but hey...we are boaters...we are used to 'getting soaked'! (yes pun intended)
As far as 'burn in', apparently LG has engineered a technology that 'moves' the pixels which is supposed to eliminate that concern. I will report back in a couple of years on that one.

Did some more research on the LG OLED TV. One technique built into the TV is some sort of pixel refresher program. It happens every time the TV is turned off. This is supposed to help prevent burn in.

I went to Best Buy Thursday to take a good long look at the TV. The program they are running on the TV is run every day. I have been tracking this TV for almost a year. I saw no screen burn of any kind or an pixel retention when the scene changed. I talked to the LG rep at the store and he said that if I were to leave a scene on screen and go away for two weeks there could be some screen burn of that scene when I returned.

For normal viewing it will not be an issue his words. I am still leaning towards buying it but will do more study of the issue and that TV in general.

On Wednesday I walked in to Best Buy. The LG 65" OLED TV was marked down to $1949.99. I went back on Thursday and bought it. It will be delivered next Wednesday. Time will tell if it was a good decision or not.

Congrats on your purchase. I am sure you will be pleased, we sometimes overthink things a little myself included.
