Rather than purchase a new control box ($$) or be without heat/air for a while, owners simply bypass the box or get a tech to bypass until they get a new box or relay later, which sometimes gets put on the back burner and never happens!

Hey Viper, was hoping you would chime in. So if you could help me out, what is the difference in the relay and the driver/relay in the control box? is the control box something located in each unit or in the pump? or something all together separate? thanks!

what the difference is that a relay can be mechanical or solid state electronics no moving parts (pump driver board)which is the same principal, by doing the switching of the outputs to the water pump. you will be looking in the engine bay for something like this box i have linked below if the previous owner has not removed it and hot wired around it .

I have been ALL over the engine room and no such box is there. so guessing it was wired around at some point. would that box (in your link) work for this application or would i need a specific box for the units I have?

Yes you can use it there are just more inputs than you need which won't matter a bit. . Maybe search on Internet for better price etc but the $180 isn't bad. . Take a look at the spec sheet/guide on the page i linked and you will see how the wiring is. This will make it very clear how it this works. What you need to do is find the wiring from each ac that go to the water pump or are supposed to go there in case the previous owner has just wired the pump on all the time.because these will terminate in the relay box at correct positions and then there will be one pair of wires running to water pump from box. There will also be a electrcall connection to the box from the electrical panel.
