My boat came with a refrigerator as opposed to an ice maker. I am happy about that because as tomschauer suggests, who wants ice 'made' from 'on board' water. I used the ice maker on my old boat to store ice which I purchased and brought to the boat. A friend just installed a nice looking 'Isotherm' stainless steel unit on his boat.

This is a whole other topic but yes we cook with and drink our on board water all the time and have done so on the previous boats. There is a proper way to commission and maintain the potable water tank and the lines throughout the boat plus the addition of a filtration system in my case. Will eventually post the way we do this in a new topic.

Ya drinking your potable water is totally doable if it's properly set up and managed. Filters required, and system cleansing and water maintenance are a must. Your boating habits also play a large roll in determining how you maintain your water system.
