This is a good tip, that I hadn't thought of, and there is no trans temp gauge at the helm.
thanks!

Wow, sounds like it very well could have been a tranny temperature issue, with the burned fluid. I'd keep a close eye on that, as the new fluid might allow it to lock up a little more (averting a temperature alarm) but might still slip and wear the clutches, putting you right back where you were but with a worn out transmission.

Yes, I'll have to keep an eye on this. I've heard from folks that the Velvet Drives are pretty bulletproof, so here's hoping that holds true **crosses fingers**

Hate to say it, and hope I'm wrong, but..... burnt fluid means you have something bad going on in there. It should never get burnt.

You are correct, burnt fluid is not a sign. But, lets stay positive.

I'll keep an eye on the fluids. I don't feel anything odd in the running, so I'm keeping a positive attitude. I hear that helps. :)

When was the last time that fluid was changed, and do you know if she's ever had an impact?

Well, the boat is new to me, so I can't say for sure either way. When we got the boat, It looked like it just didn't get a lot of use. I don't see any signs of impact.

So because there is some discussion about the fluid........when you checked the fluid before you changed it....how would you describe the color on the dipstick.....pinkish,used oil color,or honey color.?

Do you have v drives with the trans/drive ( no shaft between ) attached directly to the back of the engine ?

Starboard was Used oil color with some pinkish color, Port (with the alarm) was used oil color with almost no pink. Both are straight drive (no v drive).

After the flush and running, I checked both again and they are pink, no used oil color.
