A good rule of thumb with 30 year old boats that have had multiple owners is to take your time and don't assume anything is original until you verify......good luck man..

I have a voltmeter. How do I tell which is batt 1 and which is batt 2?

Disconnect one of the batteries, then turn the selector switch to 1 or 2 and see if you can still turn the lights on. The position (1 or 2) that still provides power is the battery you left connected. You can then label the switch "port" and "starb" or the batteries "1" and "2". I like labeling both the switch and batteries.

Got everything installed. The old charger was a 4 bank utilizing 3 of the banks. The wires were connected directly to each battery (which includes the generator battery). I ran the charger’s DC ground to the engine grounds and the chassis ground to both the engine grounds as well as a ground bus that was on the port side, which appeared to be connected to an anode or something that goes into the water. Pretty straight forward. I will use the 1/2 selector properly now and not use ALL. Start on 1, house on 2. Thanks for the help!
