I've said many times, the engineers who design these things need to work on them.

waybomb, I can see that now...the problem is I was working alone and have fairly heavy bench seats I cant lift out on my own. Bothers me a little that if I had a problem on the water I wouldn't be able to get to the engine compartment. Love the boat otherwise!! Original owner put more money into ot than the boat was worth. Marble tables and countertops, all new upholstery, carpet, and seadek. Full raymarine electronics...really a sharp boat for an 85!

It's been 22 years since we sold it, but. If I recall...
The engine cover under the passenger seat comes out without taking the seat section out. Then you can work on the port engine.
Once that cover is out, you can also work on the port sided of the starboard engine. To get to the starboard side, slide the whole pilot seat and cover thing over about a foot. You can then get to the starboard side of the starboard engine. Tight, but do able.

waybomb, thank for chiming in! The passenger seat and table are up on a raised platform that could convert to a bunk...so that needs to come out to access that engine cover. The only cover I can get open without moving everything is the center one or the starboard side...unfortunately all the pumps and stuff are all the way forward on the port side...I cant reach them from the center cover..appreciate any help I get though! Congrats on the Riviera. We just got one as well that needs a lot of interior work.

Petemait, congrats to you as well!! Every boat has its issues...finding out some of my problems are due to my lack of understanding of how some of the systems work...some are the design...but overall shes a great boat! Luckily our interior had been nicely done before we bought it. Hit me up with any questions, I'll answer if I can! About to find out how much fun servicing the vacuflush system is...lol...nasty job from what I've been hearing...will let ya know how it goes! Cheers!

So far i have fixed a bunch of the wiring, some leaks on the fresh water plumbing, replaced the fuel fill lines and fuel lines from tanks to engines. A lot of smaller projects as well. The good thing is getting to know how everything works like you hinted to. Let me know if you have any questions as well. About to put in a new fridge and work on the rudder to steering cable connections.

I've been lucky that the previous owners took good care of her and have serviced a lot of common issues already. We got a discount on the purchase price because they thought the generator was shot. Turned out to be a $50 part and it's good to go. It's a diesel gene on a gas boat, kind of a strange setup. I ran a couple packets of stuff that's supposed to clean any solids out of the duck bill valves ...it actually worked pretty good and bought me some time on taking it all apart. I love this boat! Sometimes wish I didn't have to pull all the furniture to get below deck. Makes keeping an eye on things a real pain, sort of discourages frequent maintenance. Hope your having a good season Pete!
