yes it will stay in the gear . I was working on it today trying to find out whats wrong. It seems that cables are not bad disconnected, when you connect them back controls are stiffer but good enough , but when i start the engines everything
is back to the point that i cant get it out of gear . I have to use a lot of force to put it in neutral. Ill start with changing the throttle cables tomorrow because that's the only think i can do by my self after that i guess is call for some boat mechanic .

Anybody knows where i find good cables ? They are universal or i have to go through Carver?

If you're talking about throttle cables, they're probably just Teleflex cables that you can get just about anywhere. There will be a model number at one or both ends of the cable. Part of that number will be the model and the other part will be the length in inches.

The shift cables from the helm to the engines will be the same as above in terms of brand and where to find the model and size. The lower shift cable from the engine to the drive can be either a Mercury or after market brand such as Sierra Bravo cable. Personally I prefer the Mercury cables.

Sounding more and more like a clutch problem though it's hard to say without knowing the condition of your cables. Every little bit of resistance introduced by each piece of hardware contributes to the overall amount of effort required to shift. With the helm cable disconnected at the engine, you should be able to shift the drive by disconnecting the lower cable at the engine and moving it in and out to shift WITH the engine moving. BTW, never try to shift a Bravo without the engine running.

You'll need to know the length first, then hope you can find a marina that has one in stock.

ups that's gonna be almost impossible to find. Looks like shipping is the way to go . Just look at the cables and all 4 of them are worn out and cant see the number . Only number is starbord side shift cable the rest will have to probably remove and measure them

You can guestamate the cable length, just make sure you are not to short. You most likely want to tape the new cables to the old from the helm and pull them back to the engine compartment. do not put any hard bends on them.
Before disconnecting, make sure you take pics of how they attach to both the controls and especially at the carbs, where the throttle and shift cables separate. If not a three hour job will turn into four days.

the one in read was 20 feet ,probably there all about the same size

Try to get the right sizes, too short will obviously be a problem but too long is just as bad as it will introduce more bends than necessary. The more bends the more resistance you'll introduce and the cable won;t last as long. Get Teleflex "Extreme" cables. Make sure there are no tight bends when you install them.

The throttle cables will be longer than the shift cables and usually the port set of cables are longer than the starboard set.

There is a special tool used for setting up the lower shift cable properly as the adjustment needs to be precise for proper shifting. It can be set up without it if you know what you're doing but the tool makes it easier.

My previous boats were all Bravo II drives. My experience with hard shifting has always been the lower shift cable which go from the engine to the drive. These are one size and readily available. Unfortunately the boat need to be pulled as the drives must come off to change these. While you are there, you may want to change the shift bellows if this is still original. This is a common problem by the way, cannot be sure this is your problem but very likely.
