You know what? You guys are the best! I will check that out in the spring. Can I get these nuts off using a channel lock style pliers?

Unlikely. Having said that, if they're loose I suppose you might be able to but that's not what you should be using to reinstall them.

I used a couple of really big adjustable wrench from the shop.

Do you know what size the nuts are supposed to be? At least if I get an adjustable wrench, I bring the right one.

Not sure what shaft size you have . 1 1/2" shaft has a 1 1/8" thread and 1 1/4" thread for a 1 /3/4' shaft. Look up standard nut dimension for those and you should be good to go.

A 24" adjustable will do the job fine. You only need 1 wrench as you simply block up from the ground with lumber to support the prop blade so it does not turn when you wrench on it.

Just to add .....saw the previous post ..... According to the parts manual, those nuts are 1 3/4", for an 1 1/2" shaft.....you will need two wrenches, so as not to damage the threads like Hans said, especially if the nuts were torqued together properly, but in this case I don't think that prop got fitted right from what you are saying. That added to your adventure with the sand bar......might not be a bad idea to have a real good look at the other side......Good luck.
