The ones I've seen taken apart always had one or two pins that go through the rudder, the shaft bore, and shaft to hold the shaft in place. Once the pins are ground down, you can't tell they're there.tomschauer wrote:QR_BBPOST I would definitely want to pull the boat and look at the other rudder before ordering any replacement.
I thought most rudders were one piece of cast bronze, not bolted to a shaft, I guess there are many different designs out there.

All the ones I'm familiar with have stainless shafts. Are those pressed into the cast rudder or is the bronze cast around the shaft?tomschauer wrote:QR_BBPOST I would definitely want to pull the boat and look at the other rudder before ordering any replacement.

EDIT: I posted that before seeing Viper's comment. After seeing that, it makes sense. Seems like i recall seeing those pins at some point on my boat.

Swaged but not bolted, unless someone has altered the mounting due to corrosion or collision etc.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Re: New to forum with problem.
Hello agian. I contacted carver and croix gear. They sent a diagram of the rudder and is of little use. Shows shaft diameter and lenght but no specs on actual size of rudder. if anyone has info on that before I go play with the monster tarpon under the boat It would be greatly appreciated. or if anyone knows of a 82ish 3007 part out. I would make them work. they seem to have the same profile.

Re: New to forum with problem.
Is your boat a 3207? If so, you should fix your sig, as it says 3027.
There was a guy that parted out a 3207 around here that posts on CL every now and then. I'll keep an eye out on there to see if he posts again.

Re: New to forum with problem.
Ok, so no rudder yet. found out the rudders are in fact pinned unless altered. Have contacted some of the local salvage yards to see if they have something with same shaft diameter and a similar profile. I would even take one with longer shaft to have cut down and new keyway milled. If anyone knows of any carvers in the same year and size being gutted please let me know. And my boat is a 3027 sedan. Only made rudder for one year from what Carver is telling me.

Re: New to forum with problem.
Well still have no rudder. Found out they are in fact pressed and pinned from the foundry. I think at some point the rudder and shaft were repaired or replaced due to some sharpee marks on top of shaft. so at this point im looking for a rudder with a similar profile and same shaft size. If I find a rudder with longer shaft can cut and mill new keyway. So if anyone knows of similar carvers being gutted please reach out.

Yea, I would think if you get the shaft diameter and rough dimensions you should be able to find a pair. There's a huge marine used parts warehouse in Florida and I'd bet they have some rudders. Someone posted a link to it on here somewhere.

I posted it on the first page of this thread. Probably best to call before going to a feel for what they have..... http://www.themarineconnection.com/
