I think you should should do a little searching around for yourself in your area........just a quick search of marine engines in Texas came up with many possibilities..........the only thing would be if you need a specific rotation, but that can be overcome.
Take some time and ask some questions in your area.
Hans....bread and butter...

He might be thinking a "reverse rotation" 454, which are harder to come by but not unheard of.

Here's a std rotation "1990 or earlier" and reverse rotation is $500 more:

Thanks for posting Michigan Motors, those guys are well known and have been around forever, would not have any issue ordering from them.

Thank you. I guess the Marina is worried about all the accessories that attach to a new long block as potentially also being damaged... intake manifold, exhaust, etc... which is why they’re recommending new complete 383’s?

Well they could inspect the parts first and have them tested before making a decision like that......forcing you to repower both engines.
I do have one question though......how long are you considering keeping this boat ?

I really don’t know Bud. At least a couple more years. Slip fees are expensive, if a job situation was to occur I’d probably have to sell.

Should be no problem getting a 454 long block and like I said, if it's a counter rotator you can salvage the parts from the existing engine to reverse it if sourcing one becomes an issue. There also shouldn't be a problem getting all the external hardware if that's damaged too. The marina just has to do a little more homework!

GM still makes and sells new 454 short and long blocks.
Rebuilds are very readily available.

Most big blocks were discontinued in 2009 however there are a lot of blocks still available in fact I suspect it will take a decade or more before they start to become rare.
