A lot of them just go by the model number on the side of the boat for length. Hard to believe they actually take the time to measure but I can see them doing that. I've seen people change the model label on the boat with different numbers so they don't pay as much at a marina or going through locks. The downside is you lose bragging rights and have to remember you did that when it's time to sell! Can't have it both ways Such is boating!

Our marina charges by measured foot by the rules but the office staff is so lazy that they never actually measure. They charge by the slip length or boat LOA which ever is longer. They are supposed to charge for any other toys that are in the water but I have a dinghy dock also in my slip and I never get billed for it. They also charge for electricity. We currently pay $11.45 per foot so with power my bill is usually around $700/mo

Wow that's pricey. That works out to about $11K Canadian annually. I think the average up here is $6-8k for a large boat, some more some less. I went on a hunt years ago because of the slip fees and finally moved on the water a couple of decades ago with my own covered slip, wanted to put that money into my own mortgage instead of someone else's! Sure glad I did, slip fees just keep going up but my mortgage is going down! I also have my water toys docked at no extra charge; dinghy, tin tippy, 2 PWCs. In the end, while the property cost more than the average landlocked place, the savings in marina fees helped offset the extra expense, and I play by MY rules.

My summer dockage fee for my 3007 is $1750.00 this year. The marina was sold a short time ago and we are all wondering if fees will go up or stay the same under the new ownership. Dockage fees include electricity and water.

Hard to compare prices as they vary so widely by region. I'm paying around $3,000CDN based on a 45' boat which includes 50a hookup and water both being non regulated so I can use as much as I want with no extra fee. This also includes seasonal pump out and the darn taxes. Being located up north the season is from mid May until mid Oct so I guess one can say $600 a month.

Some fancier places charge up to $10,000 for the same and require full payment of next years slip by end of August this year to reserve the slip. Getting nasty for sure. I need to drop by the marina office and pay my $230 to reserve my slip so much better in comparison.

Our old marina was going to bump our fees by 1200.00 because the new boat was 3 feet longer. Same Slip , Same power , same parking - Just 1200.00 more. We managed to get into another marina for a few hundred less , and ended up paying less and getting more.

Yikes! Ours required a 50% "deposit" for the summer slip by Feb 1 if you wanted to keep it. I always argued that it wasn't really a "deposit", it was 50% payment. A "deposit" would be more like 5 or 10%. $230 I wouldn't mind at all.

Does that include your indoor storage for the winter? In terms of storage and slip fees, it's a 12 month season!

A lot of variables for sure. Some marinas also include shrink wrapping in their slip fees.

Under the old ownership we did not have to pay a deposit to hold our slip. They send out the invoices for the summer season in February. You just pay your fee then for the summer. Not sure if the new owner will change that system or not. I guess we will all just have tow wait and see how it plays out.

One rule the old ownership did have was if you didn't winter store there you were not guaranteed your slip for the following boating season. Iv'e been there since 2017 and every season they are full up with no open slips. It's a nice marina.
