Interesting, I've installed a couple of Tech-Edge iSeries units and so far so good. It's the one I'm planning on going with when I pull the trigger. It's perfect for my particular application because I have both metal and plastic tanks. It will accommodate their external strips/MODA sensors for plastic tanks and resistive senders for metal tanks. What I really like is their PVC Rod Sensor for metal or plastic tanks that are perfect for waste tanks as there is no float to worry about getting fouled up and having to clean all the time for proper operation. The rod basically contains MODA sensors inside the tube and work as though they were mounted on the outside of a plastic tank. I can also use that in my metal water tank or simply go with a WEMA resistive float sender.

The SCAD units are so similar that one wonders if 2 partners split up and went each their own way. SCAD has the same option. https://www.scadtech.com/sites/default/ ... Manual.pdf

In my case I want to mount it on the wall behind the master head as this is the one that is important. The SCAD unit is small and more aesthetic for my application.

Question remains, who makes the most durable/reliable head unit?

Done deal, ordered the SCAD TM1 unit with internal sensor. Easily adapted to the OEM system Carver installed on my boat and can even use the existing wires. It does say that but you cannot believe everything you read. In my case it will be easier for me to install from the top as I have limited room on the sides to stick the sensor tape option. As viper mentioned it is the same setup except the sensors are in a tube. A metal tank must have this since it cannot function with metal tape on a metal tank but they will work on any tank. Ya the rods can be used on any tank. As Hans said, they're a must for metal tanks but they can be used on plastic tanks where the tank sides are impossible to get at without tank removal.

Regarding the WEMA holding tank sender, consider that it's just another float system unless something has changed. The outer casing helps to keep large solids away from the float but the float is still in contact with waste and will eventually foul up and require cleaning. Will the rod type MODA sensor require a wipe down after several years? Maybe, but I suspect you can minimize that with some regular preventive maintenance, namely what you put in your tank to maintain it.

One cool thing that should be mentioned is the display can be programmed to work with almost any existing sender and not just the MODA sender.

Ya that's important to note. The Tech-Edge i-Series does that too and they can be programmed to read opposite the typical reference too like "Full" at 230 ohms or "Empty" at 230 ohms depending on the sender you have.

Sounds like the two brands are pretty similar operationally. I've seen the SCADs but haven't really looked into them that much. Time to do some research!! I do like the programability of the i-Series though and that I can have all my three tanks and more in one unit (up to 8). I don't have 8 tanks but I can get pretty creative and probably come up with something else to monitor besides tanks, including things that you want alarms on. Oh Oh, did I just raise an eyebrow Hans? High water alarms, how about the shower sump failure that's been overflowing and you never find out about until the boat smells! Coolant reservoir bottles, etc. My bucket list is getting bigger AND I have to figure something out for when my bear fridge is close to empty
